Hand Tracking
Our Virtual Reality experiences are evolving thanks to hand tracking integrated into Meta Quest headsets.
Virtual Reality headsets are often associated with the world of gaming, a sector that is growing rapidly, especially in the PC field. However, these devices offer much broader possibilities.
At KeyWe, we use immersive technologies to innovate companies’ communication, promotion and sales tools during trade fairs, corporate events and showrooms. We offer Virtual Reality experiences to engage customers and prospects, presenting services and products in a realistic, engaging and sustainable way.
Meta Quest 3 – The Virtual Reality headset
For the best Virtual Reality experience, we recommend the Meta Quest 3, a headset released in February 2023. We consider it the best entry-level headset, with remarkable visual quality and the immersive effect of 3D audio. It also supports Mixed Reality and has much more precise controls. Furthermore, it is the most comfortable to wear, even for those trying it for the first time.
It features an eye-tracking system and a processor so powerful that it allows our 3D developers to create truly rich, immersive and realistic VR experiences. That’s why we consider it the most complete headset on the market.
Hand tracking su Meta Quest 3 – How it works
Virtual Reality experiences are enjoyed by wearing a headset and holding one or more controllers. The headset acts as a pointer, while the controllers allow interaction with virtual content. Over time, we have noticed that not all users are accustomed to using joysticks. The main obstacle to a smooth experience is the lack of intuitiveness of the controllers.
The introduction of hand tracking is intended to make the use of controllers optional. With this technology, users are free to manage applications directly with their hands.
Hand tracking works using the inside-out cameras on Meta Quest headsets. Your headset detects the position and orientation of your hands and the arrangement of your fingers. Once detected, computer vision algorithms allow you to monitor the movement and orientation of your hands.
As soon as hand tracking became available, we took the opportunity to test it on our VR software. The result is greater freedom of movement, for a smoother and more natural experience.
The Virtual Reality project for MSC
Since 2019, we have been collaborating with MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company to innovate the visitor experience at trade fairs and industry events. Our Virtual Reality experiences recreate hyper-realistic environments and explain processes using a gamification approach.
The audience consists of salespeople and managers from companies that import and export products. We have noticed that these categories of people are not accustomed to using headsets. That is why we are always looking for new strategies to make VR experiences more intuitive.
Added to this is MSC’s desire to communicate in an innovative way, in keeping with its position as market leader. VR software with hand tracking integration is a natural response to this need. The technology transports people into virtual spaces, where they can select information and load/unload goods onto MSC ships using only hand gestures.
