KeyWe brings artificial intelligence to digital catalogues

We have developed SmartResearch, an artificial intelligence agent that innovates catalogue searches.

For many companies, it is essential to manage their products through digital catalogues, available to customers, retailers and professionals. When there are thousands or tens of thousands of products, consultation becomes complex.

Filters and navigation menus are useful tools, but often insufficient when the amount of information grows.

That’s why at KeyWe we have developed SmartResearch, a tool based on artificial intelligence designed to make catalogue searches more intuitive and faster.

The goal is to transform the consultation of digital catalogues into an experience similar to a conversation with an industry expert.

What is SmartResearch

SmartResearch is an artificial intelligence agent designed and trained by KeyWe to help users quickly find products, technical information and documentation within complex catalogues.

SmartResearch is based on AI models developed by major international research centres, but is configured to suit the needs of each company. To do this, proprietary databases and content are used.

In this way, artificial intelligence does not provide generic answers, but interprets user requests and returns relevant results.

With SmartResearch, users can:

  • write what they are looking for in natural language
  • get targeted suggestions from among thousands of products
  • receive technical information without having to spend a long time browsing the catalogue
  • compare different items in a matter of seconds
  • get customised lists, tables and PDFs

Instead of navigating through categories and filters, users can simply type a question, as they would to a colleague or technical consultant.

For example:

  • ‘Search for a switch for electrical panels with these characteristics’
  • ‘What is the difference between these two products?’
  • ‘Generate a table with the product characteristics’

The result is a faster, more natural search that is geared towards the user’s real needs.

Image search: finding a product from a photo

One of the most interesting features of SmartResearch is image search.

This option allows users to start a search simply by uploading a photo of a product. Artificial intelligence analyses the image and starts a consistent search within the catalogue.

The system can:

  • recognise the product’s characteristics
  • identify the item code if visible
  • suggest similar or compatible products
  • direct the user to the correct technical data sheet

This feature is particularly useful when:

  • you do not know the name of the product
  • you need to replace an already installed component
  • you only have a photo of the device

AI-based visual search makes consulting catalogues even more immediate and accessible.

Artificial intelligence designed for businesses

SmartResearch stems from KeyWe’s experience in developing digital solutions focused on innovation and user experience.

The technology is designed to integrate easily into business systems and can be applied in various contexts:

  • technical and industrial catalogues
  • e-commerce with large quantities of products
  • document databases
  • technical support portals

Each implementation is trained on the company’s data and tone of voice, ensuring relevant, up-to-date and human responses.

SmartResearch for the ABB Catalogo generale

We applied SmartResearch to the Catalogo generale of the Electrification division of ABB Italia. This was one of the first projects in which this technology was used in a real-world context.

The digital catalogue can be consulted by installers, designers and system integrators. Thanks to SmartResearch, users can find products more quickly, even by simply uploading an image.

The catalogue in numbers:

  • 38,000 products
  • 264,000 new users since launch
  • 15,000 monthly users

This project demonstrates how artificial intelligence applied to digital catalogues can transform complex tools into simple and effective search experiences.
